Capturing the enemy – photo exhibition at Rottnest

Capturing the Enemy is a special heritage exhibition to be held in the Rottnest Island Salt Store from Anzac Day to mid-August.

This year marks the centenary of the commencement of World War One and Rottnest Island Authority is hosting an exhibition of photographs taken on Rottnest Island in 1914 and 1915 when it was an internment camp for enemy aliens. German and Austrian Slav (mainly Croatian) men and boys, held in the internment camp between August 1914 and November 1915 are shown in the familiar landscapes of the Island, along with Australian soldier guards and Aboriginal men, brought to the island as extra labour.

This exhibition runs daily from 25 April – 31 August, at the Salt store 10 – 3pm
