The Fremantle History Society has much pleasure in announcing a research scholarship to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The scholarship supports the Fremantle History Society’s objectives and in particular encourages new research relating to Fremantle’s history.

The scholarship is open to anyone interested in pursuing the highest level of research and writing and will require the completion of a written work, the format of which can be negotiated but will most likely take the form of a monograph of up to 10,000 words to be published by the Fremantle History Society.

Capturing the Enemy is a special heritage exhibition to be held in the Rottnest Island Salt Store from Anzac Day to mid-August.

This year marks the centenary of the commencement of World War One and Rottnest Island Authority is hosting an exhibition of photographs taken on Rottnest Island in 1914 and 1915 when it was an internment camp for enemy aliens. German and Austrian Slav (mainly Croatian) men and boys, held in the internment camp between August 1914 and November 1915 are shown in the familiar landscapes of the Island, along with Australian soldier guards and Aboriginal men, brought to the island as extra labour.

This exhibition runs daily from 25 April – 31 August, at the Salt store 10 – 3pm
